Psychologist Temporary Full Time Forensic Mental Health Jobs Vacancy in Providence Care Kingston Jobs Details:

The Psychologist will work collaboratively with the interprofessional team members and community partners to provide
psychological services to individuals with severe mental illness and to their families/significant others, in order to reduce the impact
of their illness and to enhance quality of life. The Psychologist will utilize research methods and program evaluation to study the
factors involved in the etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of psychiatric disorders and disturbances and will carry out this
work in accordance with Providence Care policies, Mission, Vision and Values, and the regulations of the College of Psychologists of

Ontario.

Education & Experience: Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
from a Canadian
Psychological Association
(CPA) and/or the American
Psychological Association
(CPA) accredited university
program

CPA and/ or APA accredited
residency/internship,
preferred

Registration with the
College of Psychologists of
Ontario in Clinical and
Forensic areas of practice,
preferred

Eligibility autonomous
practice in Clinical and
Forensic areas with the
College of Psychologists of
Ontario; or eligibility for
supervised practice in
above areas

Minimum two years of
experience in providing
psychological services to
adults with serious mental
illness, preferred

Experience working with
clients with dual diagnosis,
preferred

Demonstrated skill in specialized forensic assessment and intervention approaches
• Knowledge of the Criminal Code and Review Board processes
• Knowledge of policies, procedures and direct and indirect methods of ensuring security in a

forensic setting
• Knowledge of relevant forensic/correctional literature, methods and evaluation tools pertaining

to Forensic Mental Health
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Regulated Health Professions Act, the Mental

Health Act, the Public Hospitals Act, WHMIS, legal aspects of care including substitute decision
making, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act •

Demonstrated skill in general evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment approaches
for mental disorders and disorders of cognitive impairment •

Knowledge of current psychological principles and practices
• Knowledge of major mental illness and behavioural disorders from a bio-psychosocial perspective
• Demonstrated skill in behavioural assessment and interventions
• Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of professional standards and ethics
• Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate behavioural programming through the

interpretation of data related to client incidents
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team, taking initiative and demonstrating

autonomy as appropriate
• Knowledge of research methodology
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, and the work of others effectively and meet deadlines in a

busy environment with frequent interruptions •
Demonstrated trouble shooting skills and ability to problem solve issues that may arise in carrying out

the duties of this position
• Demonstrated understanding and commitment to health and safety policies, procedures and

applicable legislation •
Demonstrated person-centred focus and commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic

directions of the department and of Providence Care
• Demonstrated professional work ethic and behaviours in interactions with internal and external

contacts •
Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision with proven reliability and

trustworthiness •
Proven willingness to learn and acquire new information and skills
• Bilingual in French and English language, preferred
