As a member of the Manufacturing team, the Set-up Technician is in charge of ensuring effective, efficient and reliable set-up and tear-down of all manufacturing equipment to ensure smooth operations of manufacturing equipment and quality of the manufactured product. The Set-up Technician will also perform basic preventive maintenance, and minor mechanical repairs or adjustments as well as disassemble, clean, re-assemble, adjust and install tooling in support of production operations in accordance with SOPs and WPs while taking into consideration the company’s commitment to our seven Core Values such as Sustainability (people, the planet, and profit) in the planning and implementation of all actions related to the area of responsibility.
Monitor schedule for each manufacturing equipment to ensure changeover parts are cleaned and inspected prior to each changeover, review changeover checklist, set-up and start-up each piece of equipment, and support until steady state operation is achieved
Use hand tools, portable power tools and material handling equipment to perform precision set-up during production equipment change over
Identifies and performs adjustments to improve production during operation to meet all production requirements, including equipment speeds, quality, efficiency, daily production output and required change over times
Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment by making regular inspections
Troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment and performs minor repairs
Issue maintenance requests for major repairs
Maintain all required documentation including cleaning logs, maintenance logs and production records
Assist in the operation of production equipment by performing the duties of a manufacturing technician and Lead hand when necessary
May assist in the training of other employees
Drive continuous improvement focused on change over time reduction and participate in and support improvement initiatives
Function with a high degree of autonomy, requiring minimal supervision
Perform all duties in compliance with safety rules, Standard Operating Procedures and Good manufacturing Practices
Other related duties as assigned
Mechanical aptitude to perform routine repairs, adjustments and precision set-up procedures on packaging equipment
Ability to safely work with hand tools and measuring tools such as calipers
Experience working with technical manuals, drawings and instructions and ability to maintain accurate written records
Intermediate Microsoft Office (including Excel), experience with SharePoint an asset
Technician/Technologist College diploma in related field an asset
Experience working in a regulated working environment (specifically nutraceutical, pharmaceutical or food manufacturing) an asset
Familiarity and/or exposure to continuous improvement tools and technics (such as 5S, SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies), kaizen) desired
Good English communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing.
Time management and organization skills
Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
