The Claims Advocate provides technical claims support to production/client service teams and clients. This individual will also collaborate with production/client service teams to provide value added services, with a focus on client retention.. The Role

The Claims Advocate provides technical claims support to production/client service teams and clients. This individual will also collaborate with production/client service teams to provide value added services, with a focus on client retention. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical consulting and assistance to clients and colleagues
  • Ensure professional and timely reporting of new claims including identifying the applicable policy(ies)
  • Direct and assist clients through the claims process
  • Assist with development, improvement and adherence of Claims Handling Protocols
  • Provide initial and on-going advocacy on claims including detailed analysis, interpretation, consultation and negotiation of coverage
  • Review and analyze Reservation of Rights letters and Coverage Denials; strategize with colleagues and clients to ensure coverage is afforded appropriately
  • Analyze policy wordings and negotiates with insurers to secure broadest interpretations and provide maximum claim settlements for insureds
  • Advises clients and colleagues regarding coverage, exposure and settlement questions
  • Maintain accurate claims data and files in compliance with our standards
  • As required, work with legal counsel to resolve complex claims issues
  • Establishes and maintains positive relations with insurance claim professionals and Third Party adjusters
  • Update staff and insureds on legislative changes and industry trends
  • Participate in quarterly claims reviews for regional clients
  • Prepare quarterly claims bordereaux for clients (as required)
  • Other miscellaneous, administrative and clerical functions as required

The Requirements


  • University degree and/or insurance designations preferred
  • BC Property & Casualty insurance license
  • Minimum 5-7 years insurance industry experience with at least 2 years of claims handling
  • Must have strong technical knowledge of claims, loss control and the claims process
  • Writes clearly, concisely and effectively
  • Communicates verbally effectively and with impact
  • Computer literate
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task – Effective time management skills
  • Committed to superior customer service
  • Ability to work independently, a self-starter
  • Ability to work well with others and provide assistance cooperatively and courteously
