Duties

The student will be working with a Research Scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Truro, NS, primarily in the areas of water quality, climate adaptation and climate change. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of this agricultural scientist and also in collaboration with other AAFC scientists and technical staff. The research will primarily entail both field and laboratory work; sampling preparation, sampling, field maintenance, analysis, data collection and management in the above areas.

  • The successful candidate will assist with research projects/activities under field and laboratory conditions.
  • Collecting data and samples for water and climate adaptation work (i.e. water, soil, plant and gas)
  • Using monitoring equipment (i.e. weather stations and sensors, etc.)
  • Data management

Currently enrolled or willing and eligible to enrol in a B.Sc. or M.Sc. program from a recognized University in one of the following specialization: agriculture, agronomy, environmental science, environmental management or plant science.

Degree equivalency

Experience in conducting field work.
Experience taking soil, water or gas samples.
Experience using spreadsheet analyses programs such as Excel.
Experience in interpreting and analyzing results.

Valid driver’s license
Ability and willingness to travel and work in remote locations such as field sites.
Ability and willingness to work in both field and laboratory settings.
Ability and willingness to work extended hours on an occasional basis.
