Temporary Full-Time (CUPE 1329T)
O pen to all current Town of Oakville employees and external applicants.
This is a contract opportunity lasting approximately 4 months.
This position reports to the Supervisor of Licensing and By-law Services.
Inspects properties, vehicles, and buildings to ensure that their use is in conformance with designated by-laws (i.e. lot maintenance).
Provides the public, and other interested individuals, all necessary information and assistance relating to by-laws of the Town.
Where by-law contraventions are identified, interacts directly with person(s) most likely to be responsible to secure compliance with the by-laws.
Where by-law contraventions are not resolved in a satisfactory manner, despite best efforts, initiates a prosecution under the procedures set out in the Provincial Offences Act.
Manually and electronically records the facts of all investigations in sufficient detail to support prosecution.
Other duties as assigned.
The applicant will be required to:
Attend Provincial Offences Court or AMP hearings and give evidence under oath based on investigations of by-law contraventions.
Establish and manage a Call Centre portfolio of By-law (IB) and Licensing (IL) folders.
Utilize all available information technology assets. (hardware and software).
Perform other duties as assigned, including weekend and evening shifts under an altered work schedule to be determined.
The successful applicant will also be required to provide their own vehicle to perform job duties/corporate business.
High School graduation and successful completion of a Community College Course in Security and Law Enforcement or equivalent from a recognized professional organization. Applicants must be familiar with Courtroom procedure and decorum and have an understanding of the Ontario Evidence Act. Previous experience in a law-enforcement related field is preferred. Strong report writing and public relations skills are necessary, as well as the ability to deal authoritatively, but politely, with the public. The successful applicant must adhere to a strict code of confidentiality, incidental to all section investigations. Please note that successful candidates, who are new hires and/or who have not performed in this position previously will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector screening check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment.
