Duties Duties
Based in Churchill Manitoba, the successful candidate will assist with the delivery of interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors to Parks Canada’s Churchill Visitor Centre, Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site, York Factory National Historic Site, and Wapusk National Park.

Intent of the process The results of this competition may be used to fill future vacancies.

The results of this process may be used in the future to fill temporary vacancies with Parks Canada in Northern Manitoba, provided the student is currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution and will be returning to school at the end of the term with Parks Canada.

EDUCATION:
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary institution and have completed at least one year of studies working towards a degree, diploma, or certification program.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in paid or volunteer work that entailed direct contact and communication with the public;
• Experience in delivering messages/information to groups in face-to-face situations with the purpose of education, engagement, entertainment and/or motivation;
• Experience using various computer programs and data management.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job) • Experience in working with Indigenous groups and/or in a Northern work environment;
• Experience in the development or delivery of Indigenous specific proposals, projects, and programs;

KNOWLEDGE:
• General knowledge of Parks Canada and its mandate;
• Knowledge of communication, presentation and interpretive techniques such as storytelling, demonstration, theatre programs or guided walks;
• Knowledge of environment, vegetation and wildlife, and history of Churchill, Manitoba, and surrounding area.

ABILITIES:

• Ability to make decisions based on health and safety guidelines, policies and procedures;

Conditions of employment All selected candidates must:
• Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status Security Clearance
• Be in possession of a valid class 5 driver’s licence
• Be able to find own housing in area
• Be able to work in inclement weather when required
• Wear a uniform as per Parks Canada Uniform Policy and prescribed protective equipment
• Work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required
• Work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation (helicopters, float plane, motor boat), when required
• Complete training and obtain certification as required (e.g. First Aid, Polar Bear Guard Certification).
