Peel Children's Centre is an accredited children’s mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or may experience serious emotional difficulties. Our services are provided in a dynamic, client-centered environment that values flexibility, accessibility and responsiveness.

Our Crisis Response Services offers immediate aid for children/youth and their families who are dealing with imminent mental health crises. Peel Children's Centre provides a two-tiered response service via telephone and on-site visits to the clients' home, school, or any other location in the community.

CRISIS RESPONSE WORKER

2 Temporary Part-Time Positions (24 hours/week)

1 Year Contract: April 2018 –April 2019

As a Crisis Response Worker, you will be responsible for responding to crisis situations and providing both telephone and on-site crisis response and services to children, youth and their families in the Region of Peel. You may provide service in the home, in the school or in the community and may be required to provide time-limited, transitional case management supports and collaboration with other service providers following the crisis response. For clients, you will assess circumstances of the crisis and determine whether the response will utilize effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills and complete all necessary risk and behavioural assessments.

You will be required to work flexible, rotating shifts according to a predetermined schedule and provide on call coverage, as the Crisis Response Service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As a member of the Crisis Response Service team, you will respond to crisis calls in a timely manner, implement verbal de-escalation techniques, negotiate safety plans, as required, and work closely with other members of the Crisis Response Service. You will provide follow up calls and/or visits to further support stabilization of the crisis situation and provide linkages to ongoing community supports or counselling, as needed.

In addition to the competencies listed above, as the successful incumbent will:

  • Have a B.S.W., BScN or related B.A with a minimum of two years clinical experience or CYW diploma with three years clinical experience in children’s mental health crisis response services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of crisis theory, relevant legislation pertaining to children’s mental health, child and family development, mental health issues and community resources.
  • Have proven tolerance for high stress which necessitates a calm and competent manner, quick and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Display a proven ability to anticipate unsafe situations and formulate safety plans to address these needs.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in addition to excellent computer literacy skills.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for work.
  • A second spoken language is an asset.

The annual salary range for this position is from $37,402 to $43,380 based on a 24 hour work week. As a contract employee, you would also be eligible for 4% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation.
