The Clerk 2 (Solid Waste & Recycling) is responsible for providing service-related information and assistance to staff and the general public over the telephone and via email. In this role the incumbent will prepare service requests, records, files, and use a variety of different software programs to help with the operations and provide information to staff and the public related to Solid Waste and Recycling activities. We place a strong emphasis on customer service skills dealing effectively with both external and internal clients via radio or on the telephone while compiling and reviewing information and data. Examples of work may include extracting data from Hansen, analysis of information using spreadsheets, and general office duties to assist others in Solid Waste Operations. This position will also perform other related work as required.
An incumbent will have the following qualifications for this role including: the completion of Grade 12, including or supplemented by courses in typing, word processing and standard commercial courses or an equivalent combination of training and experience. This position requires sound knowledge of the rules and regulations which govern activities in the Solid Waste and Recycling Department, strong clerical skills and ability to prioritize work effectively. In this position strong attention to detail as well as the ability to work as a part of a team or work independently is needed as is the ability to make minor decisions in accordance with Solid Waste regulations, departmental policies, and procedures. The ability to utilize different software such as MS Word and Excel is required. Knowledge and experience in the use of Hansen, Burnaby MAP, and SAP is preferred as well as knowledge or understanding of related municipal engineering operations. An incumbent will have excellent customer service skills background with the strong ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and/or external contacts.
The hours of work for this position will start off one to two days a week between Monday to Friday from 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM with potential for full-time hours during vacation coverage for staff or as operational requirements dictate. The Solid Waste & Recycling Division works out of our Still Creek Works Yard.
