Over the next year, Science North, through support of the CanCode program, will bring hands-on coding and programming experiences to schools in Sudbury and across Northern Ontario. In total, over 30,000 students will gain important skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to help them achieve further academic success. The programming will also provide thousands of teachers with the tools needed to integrate digital skills and coding in their classrooms. CanCode is a federal program that gives students from kindergarten to Grade 12 the opportunity to learn coding and other digital skills.

Contract period begins immediately and goes until March 31, 2019

Do you want to be part of a dynamic, enthusiastic team that thrives on creating cool experiences for both students and teachers? If so, this may be the perfect opportunity for you. The Staff Scientist – Education will be a key member of the Education and Northern Programs team, leading and supporting programs and initiatives designed to achieve the unit’s objectives and strategic goals. The Staff Scientist will lead the development and implementation of coding e-workshops and coding specialty programs for students at both the elementary and secondary level. They will also be involved in planning coding programs teachers, as well as developing online educator resources including videos. The successful candidate will have a degree in applied science (coding), or a bachelor of education; strong program development and delivery experience; superior communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills and an ability to multi-task; extensive knowledge of the Ontario curriculum as well as demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships and fully engage educators and students. Fluency in French will be considered an asset. The position requires the ability to work full- time hours with some evening/weekend work and limited travel. $1638 bi-weekly.
