Open Door Group is searching for a Community Development Assistant to help amplify our mission of opening doors to lifelong learning and career success. As the Community Development Assistant, you will be responsible for raising awareness of Open Door Group's programs, services, and brand through effective storytelling, consistent content delivery, and strategic audience engagement through various web and social media platforms. You love connecting with people and fostering relationships with partner organizations, local committees, and media. You are organized and detail-oriented and have the creative and technical skills to develop innovative marketing materials and social media campaigns that look good, sound good, and get results.

As the Community Development Assistant, you’ll work out of our head office in Mount Pleasant, steps away from Main Street eateries and amenities. Our location is directly on the Ontario bike route and close to multiple transit options. At the office, enjoy spectacular mountain views, a sunny patio, and access to a full kitchen and shower. We’re a friendly and dynamic bunch, and there are always snacks and banter to be shared!

It’s a bonus if you also have:
Graphic design and photography skills

Practical knowledge WordPress or other website builders

Experience working in non-profit and community settings

Experience planning and executing social media campaigns

Primary Responsibilities:
Participating in the development and implementation of marketing and communications initiatives for promoting Open Door Group services and programs to individuals, groups, businesses and organizations in the community.

Planning, developing and delivering community presentations, outreach activities and special event.

Building , updating, and maintaining a database of existing and potential stakeholders including employers, community partners and media contacts.

Supporting program evaluation by developing and administering surveys, conducting focus groups, compiling data and analyzing results.

Conducting market research through a combination of literature review, quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews.

Helping to research, coordinate, and prepare print, online, and multimedia promotional materials.

Assisting with content writing, website development, advertising campaigns, and social media branding.

Coordinating and participating in local stakeholder meetings.

Researching and compiling grant and sponsorship opportunities.

Supporting fund development events and activities.

Education, Training, and Experience:
Completing studies in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or a related field.

One year experience in marketing, communications, fundraising or a related field.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Experience presenting information to both small and large groups.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to manage projects from inception to completion.

Ability to take direction and work as part of a team.

Proficient in computer skills and MS applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Proficiency in social media (knowledge of Wordpress a plus).

Experience with social media management an asset.

Experience with graphic design, web design, and audio/video production an asset.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Candidate must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

Be between 19-30 years of age

Be registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. (Completing studies in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or Community Development related education an asset)

Knowledge and Skills:
Confident in public speaking.

Adept at building new relationships.

Team oriented with a positive attitude.

Ability to organize and prioritize.

Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.

Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
