Communications Intern Summer Student Position Paid Jobs Vacancy in The Glebe Bia Ottawa Jobs Details:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Intern will work alongside the office staff to support the Glebe Business Improvement Area. The Communications Intern will help monitor online activity, track upcoming events and assist in the day-to-day administrative requirements of the office. Duties include liaising with members, maintaining the Glebe’s online presence, monitoring social media, conducting research projects and assisting in preparations for the upcoming Board of Directors election.

The ideal candidate will fit the qualifying criteria:

  • An energetic, social media-savvy individual that can help elevate the Glebe neighbourhood through various social media channels
  • Able to develop engaging content that tells a compelling story and motivates an audience
  • Open-minded and creative with excellent time management skills
  • Has a proven record of working well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Confident, personable and enjoys meeting new people

Skills:

  • Experience using Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in a professional environment
  • Superior oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to manage an extensive membership database
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong customer service skills, with experience working directly with the public
  • A beginner’s understanding of Wordpress
  • Understanding of research techniques with the ability to draft surveys, compile data and present findings in a professional document
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign would be an asset
  • The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Responsibilities:

  • Post consumer-centric content to social media that champions the Glebe neighbourhood
  • Manage membership databases to ensure contact information is up to date and relevant
  • Distribute newsletters, notices, and pageantry kits to the Glebe BIA membership when required
  • Update the events calendar on intheglebe.ca weekly
  • Post member promotions to intheglebe.ca daily
  • Conduct a research project
  • Support on-street maintenance and beautification projects
  • Assist in preparations for the Glebe BIA’s upcoming Board of Directors election
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Eligibility

To be eligible for this position, the candidate must be:

  • Enrolled in a Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or Communications Program at a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
  • Intending to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
  • A student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and
  • Refugee Protection Act* and;
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
