Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Special Projects is responsible for managing the Training & Event Centre (TEC) of Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region in an organized and efficient manner by carrying out a variety of duties including promotion, planning, sales growth, program development, and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Establish strategies, priorities, and business requirements to drive business results
  • Provide a friendly and knowledgeable point of contact for public, volunteers, donors, Habitat for Humanity partner families and staff
  • Comply with all policies and procedures
  • Ensure safety precautions are implemented and reinforced at all times
  • Program duties:
  • Achieve growth and hit sales targets by successfully managing and leading individuals and teams responsible for specialized projects/programs/classes by providing clear expectations, training, and support
  • Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs
  • Responsible for all TEC programs including Do It Yourself (DIY) classes (i.e. wooden home décor, shelves, kid’s toys, etc.), kid’s workshops (i.e. birthday parties, crafts, camps, etc.), woodworking and crafts beginner/ intermediate/ advance classes (i.e. Introduction to Power Tools), House Renovation program (i.e. Decks, kitchen), and more
  • Improve the TEC by researching and exploring new revenue streams
  • Leverage new partnership opportunities with lead companies, businesses, organizations, and institutions in collaboration with the Resource Development Coordinator
  • Create marketing and communication strategies using social media, paper, radio, and TV to increase TEC profile
  • Design and implement a strategic business plan that expands company’s customer base and ensure its strong presence
  • Identify emerging markets and market shifts while being fully aware of competition status
  • Identify potential volunteers, sponsors and donors by creating a personal and genuine interest in having them involved with Habitat for Humanity
  • Administrative duties:
  • Present sales, revenue and expenses reports and realistic forecasts to the management team
  • Recruiting, objectives setting, coaching and performance monitoring of staff and volunteers in collaboration with the Office Manager
  • Train, supervise and support paid and unpaid resources
  • Keep a registration system for all classes/programs
  • Responsible for gathering GIK, discounts, supplies and materials as needed
  • Create monthly and annual program schedules in advance
  • Responsible for TEC maintenance and keeping it clean, neat & tidy
  • Apply for grants in coordination with the Resource Development Coordinator.

Qualifications and Skills

Passion for Habitat for Humanity’s Mission

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma
  • A college diploma or university degree is an asset
  • Current First Aid Training
  • Valid class G driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Woodworking skills and previous project management and leadership roles an asset
  • Excellent relationship building skills—responsible, reliable, friendly, outgoing, and personable
  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple staff/volunteers and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Teaching ability and sense of initiative
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Strong organizational skills, both analytical and problem solving
  • Ability to work with confidential documents
  • Ability to manage both paid and unpaid resources when executing events
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to accommodate events
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve deadlines under pressure
  • Habitat for Humanity volunteer and/or work experience will be considered an asset
  • Commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region and representing that mission within the community
