The HVAC Operations Worker is responsible for performing technical and operational work involving the effective operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and related systems in a variety of larger and smaller municipal buildings and in performing a variety of building maintenance and service duties. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement and action in day-to-day activities, but major maintenance, repairs or expenditures outside service contract arrangements are discussed with a superior. Performance is reviewed in terms of the service provided, and conformance to established practices.
Our next HVAC Operations Worker will carry out regular visual inspection of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, and related support systems in City Hall & some smaller related municipal buildings, monitors Direct Digital Control (DDC) and adjusts controls of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment to produce comfortable and energy efficient temperatures for the building users, check fluid levels, pressures, temperatures and air exchange volume; oils and greases bearings in pumps, motors and fans and orders and replaces related parts as necessary; washes, replaces or renews filters; cleans ducts and grills; adjusts programmable thermostats/timers; recommends more extensive servicing or repair as necessary and upon approval orders work from designated service companies, perform minor plumbing tasks such as replacing fixtures, changing faucet washers, unstopping sinks and toilets and repairing leaks; performs minor carpentry tasks such as door hardware adjustments and repair, paper/soap dispenser installations, sign installations and furniture repair; performs minor construction, renovation and custodial tasks, as directed and responds to inquiries and concerns of building occupants and liaises with a variety of external contacts related to the work performed; reviews contractors invoices and confirms receipt of the service, may discuss service quality & response time with a superior as necessary, completes work orders and maintains a log book and records related to the work and performs related work as required.
Successful candidates will have considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance and custodial work, sound knowledge of the functions, operations and controls of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and systems, working knowledge of the functions and operations of plumbing equipment and services and have the ability to identify potential problems and to operate and maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and related systems. A Driver’s license for the Province of BC is required.
Desirable training and experience include Completion of the 10th school grade supplemented by technical courses such as Power Engineering or related courses at a vocational institute, plus sound related experience in Direct Digital Control operation and routine maintenance of HVAC systems, preferably in a Municipal Hall or equivalent multi use building, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A CUPE hourly rate of $25.84-30.37 per hour is offered plus a comprehensive benefits program.
