Community Living Ontario is seeking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic person who is studying in the field of journalism and/or communications.
Community Living Ontario is currently recruiting a Communications Intern – Summer Student Position. The ideal candidate will assist with the development and execution of communications initiatives and provide support to the Director of Communications, Marketing and Fund Development.
Funding provided through the Federal Canada Summer Jobs Program and Community Living Ontario, this position is for eight weeks, 30 hours per week at $14 an hour and will be based out of our Toronto office
Reporting to the Director of Communications, Marketing and Fund Development, the communications intern will apply the principles and practices of journalism and/or communications in the following ways:
Develop and write stories that are of interest to youth and adults who have an intellectual
disability, families and other stakeholders across the province;
Utilize their ability to research and evaluate data;
Utilize social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to engage Community Living Ontario’s
Upload content to Community Living Ontario’s e-newsletter, website and other platforms; and
Apply foundational learning of integrated marketing communications, including advertising, direct
marketing and public relations, in order to increase awareness of Community Living Ontario’s brand.
Qualified applicants will:
Be currently enrolled fulltime in a post-secondary institution and intend to return on a fulltime
basis in September of 2018; preference will be given to students enrolled in journalism and/or
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
Be legally entitled to work in Canada, in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
Have access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel (expenses will be covered).
Supervision and mentoring plan:
The communications intern will have daily contact with the Director of Communications,
Marketing and Fund Development to review assigned tasks, discuss progress on story ideas and
articles, and answer any questions that may be unclear to the student;
As part of the position, the communications intern will be asked to contribute to weekly team
meetings and be encouraged to develop his or her own story ideas; and
The communications intern will be provided with feedback on their story development and writing style.
