Activities Coordinator Regular Part Time Jobs Vacancy in Beacon Community Services Victoria Jobs Details:

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Activities Coordinator joins a multi-faceted team working in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Beacon Community Services that make a difference in people’s lives every day. The Activities Coordinator carries out an established recreation program based upon meeting the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs of the residents residing at various Beacon Community Services Assisted Living and Dementia Care Sites. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Organizes and implements a calendar of weekly and monthly recreation and social events involving activities such as arts and crafts, sports, music, woodworking, gardening and exercises to enhance and maintain resident independence and function.

 Complete individual resident social/recreation needs assessment; contributing to the resident care plan; supporting a holistic approach to resident care.

 Organizes and implements resident recreation programs outside of the facility, ensuring at all times the safety and well-being of the resident, i.e. resident is wearing appropriate clothing, footwear for walking and climate conditions.

 Organize, conduct, evaluate and record all recreation activities and program statistics.

 Recruitment, training and development of a volunteer program to support recreation programming.

 Evaluate and maintain activity supplies, reports any malfunctioning of equipment, communicates with the Site Manager on equipment and programming supplies

 Maintain an atmosphere conductive to the general public and resident well being by creating an environment which maintains the happiness, self-respect, general dignity and physical safety of each resident, guest and staff member.

 Promotes and maintains positive communication and relationships among staff, residents and the public;

 Organizes and leads Resident Council Meetings

 Sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for activity projects, reaches the techniques of related activities to residents, oversees the resident activities and reports any problems or concerns to the site Coordinator Assisted Living.

 Other related tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

 Activation Certificate, Recreation Diploma or equivalent education and experience relating to Recreation Programming

 FOODSAFE Certification (to be renewed every 3 years)

 First Aid Certification (to be renewed upon expiry)

 A clear Police Criminal Record Check and a clear Solicitor General Criminal Record Check

 WHMIS Certification (to be renewed annually)

 Able to effectively use a computer and electronic devises

 Access to a computer and access to the internet KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 Experience in working with seniors, additional experience and training in working with a Dementia population is an asset.

 Exercise excellent communication skills by demonstrating tact, diplomacy, empathy, patience and concern in providing quality service;

 A good command of the English language, both oral and written skills;

 Ability to take direction and learn procedures;

 Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.

 Physical ability to carry out all duties of the position.  Ability to organize and conduct work, operate related equipment, provide leadership,

ability to teach, and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary work environment.

 Skilled in the use of computers, the internet and electronic devices
