Overview

The Child Services Leader reports to the Child Services Coordinator. This position will be responsible for assisting in the daily operations of child care services and programs offered by MacDonald Island Park. The Child Services Leader will be respectful of children and parents and will be responsible for making sure that the area remains clean, safe, and well maintained. This position will require an individual to exemplify exceptional customer service and will be an important role amongst the Sport and Leisure Programs Department.

Responsibilities
  • Organize the daily operations of child minding/child care services and programming to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the programs at MacDonald Island Park
  • Guide children in day-to-day activities and create age appropriate activities that promote learning and development
  • Provide a safe and secure environment while providing opportunities for sleep/rest time, ensuring positive discipline and communication, and establishing routine according the MacDonald Island Park’s policies and procedures
  • Assist with sanitizing toys and child care area
  • Supervise the Indoor Playground area and enforce rules for all guests
  • Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunches
  • Provide parents with information regarding staff, scheduling,  expectations, services, and planned activities
  • Maintain current, accurate , and confidential client files
  • Provide insight into daycare processes and emergency procedures
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all guests at MacDonald Island Park
  • Assist with set up, take down and cleaning of birthday and team party equipment or supplies
  • Supervise birthday party and team parties and enforce rules for all guests
  • Ensure the timely delivery of food when appropriate
  • Lead guests through themed arts and craft projects or games and activities
  • Provide parents and guests with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activities
  • Provide insight into birthday and team party programming and emergency procedures
  • Complete additional projects as assigned by the Child Services Coordinator and the Sport and Leisure Programs Supervisor
  • Qualifications

    Certifications:

    • Current Standard First Aid certificate or equivalent (including CPR C)
    • Current AED certificate

                    Education:

    • A two year Early Learning and Child Care certificate (Child Development Supervisor) would be considered an asset; or equivalent education and experience

     

     Essential Skills and Experience:

     

    • Minimum one year experience in a child care setting
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
    • Excellent understanding of a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development
    • Strong programming capability
    • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
    • Strong understanding of standard child care guidelines and procedures
    • Ability to work with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint
    • Ability to engage in continuous learning and on the job training

     

     

    Desirable Skills and Experience:

     

    • Experience with working with children with disabilities
    • Experience in customer service would be an asset
    • Post Secondary Child Development courses

     

     

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    • This position requires full time work (40 hours per week) and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
    • This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
    • This position will also require a security clearance
