Job Summary

Responsible for receiving, analyzing and clarifying all Freedom of Information requests made under the
Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and the Personal Health
Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) or comparable legislation from other Canadian jurisdictions
received by the City of Ottawa's Access to Information and Privacy Office.

Under the direction of the Manager, Policy and Technical Solutions, coordinates the day-to-day customer
service and administrative delivery of the access to information function by responding to enquiries from the
public, Members of Council, the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC), media, law firms
and other internal/external parties.

Education & Experience

3-year degree in Law, Administration, Political Science or related field is required.

Minimum of 1 year of related experience with freedom of information and privacy legislation, preferably in a
large municipal setting.

  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for
stipulated academic requirements.

Language, Certificates & Licenses

English oral, reading, writing required

Knowledge

  • Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 1996 and its regulations
- Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004
- Provincial legislation and the orders of the Information and Privacy Commissioner
- The corporation, its political and administrative structure
- Corporate correspondence practices and administrative requirements
- Corporate Records Management systems
- Applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

Competencies & Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all
levels of the organization and with external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation
- Demonstrated public relations skills, sound judgement and ability to handle confidential, political and /

or sensitive matters
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively in both English and French
