The Advancing Futures Bursary program ( https://www.advancingfutures.gov.ab.ca ) was established to assist youth who have been, or continue to be under the care of Alberta Children's Services to access a post-secondary education. The program provides youth with social and emotional transitional and financial supports to help them realize their dreams and ambitions by providing them with educational opportunities and equipping them with the resources needed to succeed. Located in Calgary, this position supports youth attending Bow Valley College, Specialized High Schools in Calgary (Chinook Learning, Discovering Choices, and Louise Dean) and all post-secondary programs located in Medicine Hat and Brooks. Advancing Futures requires an individual with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills as well as day to day experience working with at-risk youth. You will connect with youth daily and support them in applying to the Advancing Futures Bursary. You will help youth transitioning out of care navigate through the adult world, administer and verify details of the post-secondary program the youth wants to attend and process applications.
Your success in this thirteen (13) month maternity leave cover-off position will be dependent upon your ability to engage with at-risk youth, provide advocacy and crisis management, and work in a team environment. Your accuracy and attention to detail in reviewing applicants' eligibility for the Advancing Futures Bursary and your relationship building skills with youth, post-secondary institutions and community stakeholders will be key to your success. About 15% of the Program Coordinator's responsibility is devoted to financial administration of bursary funding with the remaining 85% dedicated to case management, some of which would be defined as complex.
A human services related degree (i.e. Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Corrections, Education) plus a minimum 2 years of directly related experience is required. Experience providing day-to-day support to youth at risk, transitional planning, analyzing and evaluating program eligibility and/or navigating and linking youth to community resources is required. Experience working with community stakeholders and/or working with electronic database is an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.

$ 2,588.03 - $ 3,394.66 bi-weekly ($67,547 - $88,600 annually)
- This is a temporary Thirteen (13) month Maternity Leave cover-off.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo security screening.
- Travel is a requirement of this position; the successful candidate must possess a valid Driver's License and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- There is occasional evening work and overnight travel.
