Job Summary

Youth Worker, Day Treatment Programs

Department: Mental Health Services

Classification: Youth Worker

Reports to: Coordinator, Francophone School Based Services

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of Mental Health services and the immediate supervision of the Coordinator of Day Treatment Services, the Youth Worker works within Le Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario section 20 classrooms. The youth worker will provide support to the teachers in management of student behaviours and provision of clinical services to the youth and families. This work is to be conducted within the policies and procedures established by the Youth Services Bureau.

Principal Duties:

  • Supporting teaching staff in the management of client behaviours within the classroom
  • Implementing individualized intervention plan for the student and where appropriate the family
  • Support clients to identify short and long term goals & strategies for goal achievement.
  • Deliver individual, family and crisis services to clients of the program
  • Utilize recognized interventions to support client in the achievement of established goals
  • Assess client need for and recommend when appropriate additional resources or multi-disciplinary support for client
  • Advocate with and on behalf of client as required
  • Attend and participate in supervision
  • Participate in training to ensure ongoing development of skills and abilities
  • Ensure both electronic and physical client files are maintained current within established guidelines/policies & procedures.
  • Contribute to program and services development and evaluation.
  • Ensure timely submission of all administrative work in accordance with Bureau practices
  • Collaborate and network with community agencies as appropriate and as requested
  • Ensure familiarity with all pertinent legislation
  • Ensure compliance with Bureau and unit policies and procedures
  • Follow safe work practices as established by the Bureau and the program.

Job Specifications/Qualifications:

  • Fluency in French is essential (written and verbal)
  • College diploma or university degree in Social Sciences/social work/educational counselling
  • Two years clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated mediation skills.
  • Proven organizational, time management and administrative skills.
  • Must be able to physically restrain clients when necessary
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem solving skills.

Sommaire du poste :

Sous la direction générale du directeur des Services de santé mentale et la supervision immédiate du coordonnateur des Services de traitement de jour, le travailleur auprès des jeunes travaille au sein des salles de classe de la Section 20 du Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario. Le travailleur auprès des jeunes offrira du soutien aux enseignants dans la gestion du comportement des étudiants et la prestation de services cliniques aux jeunes et de la famille. Ces tâches seront exécutées conformément aux politiques et procédures établies par le Bureau des services à la jeunesse.

Tâches principales :

  • Appuyer le personnel enseignant dans la gestion du comportement du client en salle de classe.
  • Mettre en place un plan d’intervention individualisé pour l’étudiant et, dans les cas appropriés, la famille.
  • Appuyer les clients alors qu’ils cernent des buts et des stratégies à court et à long terme pour l’atteinte des buts.
  • Offrir des services individuels, familiaux et d’intervention en cas de crise aux clients du programme.
  • Utiliser des interventions reconnues pour appuyer le client dans l’atteinte des buts établis.
  • Évaluer les besoins du client et recommander, lorsque approprié, des ressources additionnelles ou un soutien multidisciplinaire pour le client.
  • Intervenir au nom du client, au besoin.
  • Assister et participer à la supervision.
  • Participer à la formation pour garantir le perfectionnement continu des aptitudes et des compétences.
  • Faire en sorte que les versions électronique et physique des dossiers des clients sont maintenues à jour, conformément aux lignes directrices/politiques et procédures établies.
  • Contribuer au développement et à l’évaluation des programmes et services..
  • Garantir une présentation en temps opportun de tout le travail administratif, conformément aux pratiques du Bureau.
  • Collaborer et réseauter avec les organismes communautaires, dans les cas appropriés et au besoin.
  • Assurer sa familiarité avec toutes les lois pertinentes.
  • Garantir la conformité aux politiques et aux procédures du Bureau et de l’unité.
  • S’adonner à des pratiques de travail sécuritaires, telles qu’établies par le Bureau et le programme.

Particularités du poste/qualités professionnelles :

  • La personne choisie doit être en mesure de bien s’exprimer en français.
  • Diplôme collégial ou universitaire en sciences sociales/travail social/counseling éducationnel
  • Deux années d’expérience clinique
  • Aptitudes manifestes en médiation
  • Aptitudes manifestes à l’organisation, à la gestion de temps et à l’administration
  • La personne choisie doit être en mesure de retenir physiquement les clients, lorsque nécessaire.
  • Aptitudes solides à la communication orale et écrite
  • Aptitudes manifestes en prise de décisions et en résolution de problems.
