The Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation (OCWI) is a bilingual (English and French) research centre of excellence committed to driving change in Ontario’s employment and training sector. We work with the agencies, and other partners, that build skills, provide training, and connect people looking for jobs with employers looking for workers.
We are hiring up to two (2) Research Associates with advanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods to join our team for a one-year term contract. The position is available immediately, located in Toronto, Ontario, and will report to the Senior Manager of Research and Operations.
Design, conduct, and report on quantitative and qualitative research studies.
Translate research findings into various products for different audiences.
Collaborate with designers, research communications officers, regional coordinators, and others to drive the vision and success of the OCWI.
Involvement in the development and delivery of OCWI learning assets and knowledge translation.
Willingness to travel on occasion, sometimes up to five (5) days per month.
Required Skills / Experience
Ph.D. in a research-intensive discipline (exceptional PhD students and candidates with a master’s will also be considered) such as education, sociology, economics, political economy, and behavioural economics.
Proven experience conducting independent, social science research required.
Experience managing projects with multiple stakeholders and demanding deadlines required.
Experience working directly with stakeholders and/or conducting community-engaged research required.
Strong background in study/survey design and quantitative research methods.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Ability to set priorities, work under pressure, deliver high quality results, and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated success in handling multiple responsibilities.
A strong sense of teamwork and professionalism.
Experience with program evaluation an asset.
Experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) an asset.
Ontario drivers license an asset.
Experience with specialized research and analysis software an asset.
Bilingualism (English and French) an asset.
Prior experience doing research in a client service environment, either with an agency or consultancy an asset.
Experience writing for a peer review publication an asset.

Workshop facilitation: working with research proponents and external evaluators to develop 1-2 day research idea development workshops. This includes: writing a state of knowledge and practice on the research project area, coordinating with research proponents to organize workshop logistics (e.g., attendance list, catering, location booking, and travel), working with OCWI regional coordinators to develop workshop materials.
Writing: copy-editing, summarizing workshop activities, literature reviews, Ryerson Research Ethics Board applications, communication materials, OCWI internal knowledge assets, and research reports.
Data and information management.
Prepare and give presentations about OCWI’s research outputs and activities.
Portfolio Management (25%)
Research project progress management and monitoring.
Development of a cohesiveness thematic lense for one’s assigned research portfolio.
Management of and collaboration with various research proponents.
Stakeholder Management (20%)
Relationship development and management with relevant stakeholders.
Collaboration with the OCWI’s regional coordination team.
Work with research communications team to develop the OCWI communications content and promotion materials.
Administration of Salesforce for one’s relationships.
Contribute to the OCWI’s digital media presence (e.g., social media content development, appear in OCWI webinars, and appear on OCWI podcasts).
Champion and represent the OCWI at relevant events.
Represent the OCWI on boards and/or committees as required.
Adhere to the OCWI style and brand guidelines.
Adhere to Ryerson University’s financial protocol and procedures for filing expenses and travel policy.
Contribute to the OCWI’s reporting requirements.
Facilitate external resource coordination (e.g., external contract research associates contributing to research activities on one’s research portfolio).
Support the training and onboarding of new team members.
