Analyst

Purpose of Job
The Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate reconciliation of the Bank’s cash accounts held at other Banks and internal Inter Branch Accounts in strict compliance with Bank standards and regulatory requirements. The analyst must be able to identify and escalate potential risk to senior management.

They monitor and report daily activity to Senior Management including account balances, business line positions, and Summary of cash breaks to the various business lines on a daily basis. They are required to give a high degree of customer support to internal departments as well as Settlement Operations, Product Control, GTB, Finance and BNS Branches.

Analysts must possess very good knowledge of the products and systems relating to the transactions and accounts being reconciled, as they work under very tight deadlines.

Major Accountabilities:
Ensure all statements from Correspondent Banks (received via the SWIFT system) and internal applications such as BESS (Business Electronic Support System used for payments), Wall Street (used for Money market and Forex), K2/THOR (used by Derivative Products) are correctly downloaded into Corona for accuracy and authenticity. Ensure accounts on Corona are balanced daily – Statements/ledgers/outstanding items – signed by the Nostro Specialist or Manager and stored for audit purposes.
Ensure that all accounts allocated are accurately matched, reconciled, outstanding items assigned ownership within established time frames (items 0ver 1million CAD equivalent must be addressed by 9.00 am daily). All monthly interest, charges and rebates must be checked for correctness, processed and submitted for management approval.
Work in compliance with existing regulations and guidelines in order to control or mitigate risk and promptly escalate all exceptions to management. Promptly contact the Correspondent Banks for details on any unidentified items in the accounts or missing statements.
Consistently provide a high level of customer service in accordance with established Scotia Standards to both internal and external customers ensuring clients queries are satisfactorily resolved in a timely and professional manner.
On a daily basis ensure accounts in Corona are reconciled to the General Ledgers by exporting the respective balances from Corona and the GL’s and using Microsoft Access...
Continuous cross-train within the group and enhance team spirit, cooperation morale.

Complexity of Position
Global Wholesale Services (GWS) is a division of Global Banking and Markets group. It provides back office support to the Bank’s Global Trading, Group Treasury, Corporate Banking, Securities, and Domestic and centralised cross border Money Transfer activities.
The Nostro Reconciliation Department is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the Corona reconciliation system, matching/reconciliation of all clearing and settlement transactions generated by the above business lines operated out of Toronto, London and New York. Activities take place within a high sophisticated and automated environment. Both business volumes and dollar value are very high. As a result, the tolerance levels for errors are small, as they can expose the Bank to significant operational/settlement risks and potential monetary losses.
The incumbent must have a very good working knowledge of both the domestic and international payment systems, accounting/finance knowledge, our back office applications supporting the various payment/settlement processes such as SWIFT (for wires and statements), BESS (Business Electronic Support System used for Payments), CORONA (Reconciliations), PEGA(Investigations), K2/Thor (Derivative Products) Clearing,, Oracle, General ledger systems (OG, SG , EGL, OBI), Wall street (Money Market and Forex) , Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Email and a working knowledge of the businesses in which we support.
The incumbent must be able to work independently and adapt to the various tasks assigned.
The incumbent must be a customer service oriented individual. This is necessary to deliver a high level of Scotia Service in accordance to the Bank’s Service Excellence model.

Good communication skills –oral and written.
Sound judgement, common sense, analytical thinking and discretion must be exercised to reduce risk associated with outstanding items.
High level of efficiency and flexibility are required to complete work volumes in an accurate and timely manner and with the minimum of supervision.
Training/cross training is ongoing to ensure the incumbent’s knowledge and efficiency levels are at acceptable standards.
The Nostro Analyst is expected to actively participate in the daily team huddles and problem solving sessions and update the department’s daily KPI’s(Key Performance Indicators).

Education/Work Experience/Designations
Post-Secondary Level of Education in Finance/ Accounting is required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and good computer skills.
