The Software Development Lead is responsible for combining scientific knowledge and application/processing-layer programing skills to develop analytics solutions for photo, video, LiDAR, and other sensors aboard industrial and government UAVs. They must have a solid foundation in C/C++ and Python programming, and demonstrate abilities to create and translate theory into practical solutions. They must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced team with minimal direction, exercising initiative, adaptability, and communication skills with software development and sensor engineering staff. Creativity, hard work, perseverance, and a positive attitude will be necessary on a daily basis.
The ideal candidate will have a core computer science or software engineering background, but with professional or cocurricular experience implementing machine learning analytics for image processing or other sensor data-related problems
Note: due to the government nature of some projects, candidates may be required to undergo a security assessment through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program or United States International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

MASc or PhD in computer science, software/computer engineering, with a focus on the software or science aspects of data analytics.

Technical Skills & Experience
Strong foundations in the design criteria, sources of risk, and common project management methodologies and architectures for software development
3+ years of industry/project experience implementing analytics (machine learning preferred but traditional algorithmic also acceptable) for image, numerical, or sensor fusion data in a ground, aerial or space robotics context
3+ years of software development experience (incl. course projects, cocurricular, and work experience), particularly C/C++ and Python.
Relevant design experience includes:
Reviewing, customizing, and implementing scientific concepts from research papers, to improve image data storage, manipulation, visualization, or analysis (e.g. photogrammetry or model generation, detection/classification of objects, etc.)
Coding prototypes of application/processing layer functions and programs, with the help of libraries, particularly when large quantities of data are involved
Experience with the Caffe (preferred) or TensorFlow deep learning frameworks
Experience with coding and optimization involving image data and NVIDIA GPUs, in both real-time and post-processing scenarios
Development and validation of innovative end-to-end solutions or processes during past engineering design related to analytics/processing-intensive software development
The following types of experience will be held in high regard: research theses or design projects, machine learning competitions (e.g. ImageNET), start-up, industry, particularly in image processing or cloud computing related to aviation/space
