Labourer II - Commonwealth Stadium 11 months Job Number : 32145
This facility features world-class amenities including a professional sports field with an artificial turf, aquatic area, indoor track, fitness centre, fieldhouse, fitness program rooms, basketball, badminton and volleyball courts. Athletes training for competition and fitness enthusiasts of all levels frequent this facility.

As a Labourer II, you will ensure Edmonton's citizens enjoy safe and well maintained, high quality facilities. Your ability to work independently and use excellent organizational skills will help the City meet the operational requirements of this athletic sports facility and park. In this position you will also:

Set up and take down equipment for facility events, programs and sports activities
Perform summer season outdoor mowing, playground/picnic site maintenance, minor equipment repairs, comfort station cleaning and supplies
Assist Maintenance Repairmen with artificial turf maintenance
Perform winter season snow removal using a snow blower, gas-powered walk behind snow sweeper and hand equipment
Provide customer service support to guests, such as answering questions or assisting with equipment and facility needs
Assist contract custodial staff with overall facility cleanliness and sanitation of washrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms
Maintain cleanliness of all storage areas, mechanical areas, electrical rooms, corridors, bleachers, and running track areas
Perform minor repairs on facility equipment and furniture
Perform the daily facility opening and closing procedures
Provide a security presence throughout the facility
Maintain appropriate facility and equipment maintenance documentation
Report facility and equipment maintenance needs to the Team Leader or Building Operator
Liaise with and assist the Maintenance Repairmen and Building Trades Maintenance staff

Qualifications :
Completion of the tenth (10) school grade supplemented by one (1) year of labour experience in a recreation facility or related environment
Ability to safely operate the equipment and tools required for the position such as scrubber(s), sweepers, snow blowers, riding and walk-behind lawnmowers, gators, and miscellaneous small electrical and/or mechanical equipment
Some knowledge of standard methods, materials, safety precautions, WHMIS and hazards involved in the construction and maintenance of specific assignments
Ability to work in a safe manner, as dictated by Occupational Health and Safety and the Community Services Department regulations, policies and procedures, at all times
Good written and verbal communication skills; able to maintain simple records
Ability to work alone and problem solve independently
Ability to perform physical labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions including some heavy lifting
Experience with hand tools and HVAC is an asset
Customer service experience is considered an asset
Experience with janitorial or custodial work is an asset
Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C certification is required
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
