Accessibility Advisor Appendix Jobs Vacancy in Lawrence College Kingston Jobs Details:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Counselling, Accessibility and Health Centre the incumbent is responsible for advising and facilitating support services for students with disabilities (registered and prospective). The incumbent will provide/recommend services and accommodations that are appropriate, reasonable and will assist the individual in working towards their academic and subsequent employment goals. The incumbent works closely with the student in determining their eligibility for accommodations and support, developing the action plan in order to facilitate the coordination and implementation of services between internal and external contacts such as faculty, various college departments, and 3 rd party providers. The incumbent must be proficient in the use and training of adaptive technology, assistive devices and learning strategies. The incumbent also works with other department staff to coordinate tri-campus transition programs and outreach materials for students with disabilities.
Three year degree/diploma (or equivalent) in the field of Disability Studies, Social Work, Psychology, humanities or other related discipline. Three years of related, progressive experience is required, working in an environment that involves knowledge of disabling conditions and their impact on academic achievement. The Advisor must have a thorough understanding of learning strategies, be proficient in the use of adaptive technology/assistive devices and have experience supporting and training individuals in the use of these technologies/devices. The incumbent must have a good foundational understanding of physical health, mental health, and learning disabilities, as well as being aware of accommodation rights based on the Ontario Human Rights guidelines on accommodating persons with disabilities. Knowledge of College and Community services/resources is an asset.
Salary and Terms
Classification & Salary: Payband “i” / 35 hours per week
Start: $33.67 per hour
Range: $33.67 - $39.02 per hour
Term Dates: May 25, 2018 – June 21, 2019 (13 months)
