Grounds Operator Jobs Vacancy in Macdonald Island Park Fort McMurray Jobs Details:
The Grounds Operator (Level 1) performs daily routine maintenance tasks that help to provide well maintained grounds to our patrons. Under direction of the Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance, this position is responsible for looking after the grounds by routine mowing, watering, fertilizing, garbage pick-up, tree planting, general planting as well as other parking lot, sport fields and walking trail duties. All equipment used is specialized and proper training is given in order to operate.
Position Type: 1 Seasonal Position Available (25 to 35 hours a week)
Anticipated Start Date: May 21, 2018
Anticipated End Date: On or before October 30, 2018
Pay Rate: $22.74/hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain sport fields, walking trails and grass areas around the facility
Operates line trimmer, fly mower, blower, push mower and pruning tools
Prunes over hanging branches, and removes fallen trees
Assist in maintaining mulch beds, by replacing, turning mulch as needed
Assists Horticulturist in planting and maintaining annual flower beds
Assists supervisor as needed in areas such as planting, tree removal, watering etc.
Assist in performing all maintenance tasks associated with artificial turf fields
Assist in removal and application of field paint on artificial turf fields
Keeps all entrances clean of debris
Ensure various waste receptacles around the facility are kept emptied & clean
Plays a vital role in the setup for the wide array of events hosted on the island
Field cover installation & removal
Reports any mechanical, electrical and hydraulic problems to mechanic and supervisor
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining storage area, wash bay, equipment storage areas, fuel storage, fertilizer shed, and staff locker and lunchroom
Other duties as assigned.

Completion of high school
RFP Parks & Sports field Operator Level 1 or equivalent
Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Completion of Beacon Athletics Groundskeeper University
Essential Skills and Experience:
Should possess a high level of enthusiasm, be self- motivated and able to work independently
Ability to obtain training certificates needed to perform duties safely
Must be capable of performing demanding physical work
Knowledge of the tools, landscape equipment
Ability to safely operate trucks and motorized equipment.
Experience with operating gas and diesel engines
Must be able to follow oral and written directions
Desirable Skills and Experience:
12 Months of Landscaping or equivalent experience
WHMIS, First Aid/CPR/AED Certification is preferred
Knowledge or background in horticulture, agriculture or turf
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:
Performs physical work, lifts up to 50 pounds. Frequently, and performs activities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping throughout shift.
Must have the manual dexterity to grab, grip, hold, pour, tear, cut, sort and reach.
Must be able to work in and tolerate extreme temperatures.
Must be able to work, holidays and weekends.
This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
