Job Summary

The medical receptionist works with the reception team to provide excellent service to the patients of the University of Ottawa Health Services.

Essential Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the manager, the Medical Receptionists are responsible for the following:

  • Greet and register patients, as per patient registration guidelines;
  • Answer multi-line telephone, screen, and provide information/assistance or route caller to appropriate personnel, take messages and deliver to the appropriate personnel.
  • Schedule, confirm, cancel, and reschedule medical appointments, for physicians, AHP’s, and/or administration requests;
  • Establish and maintain confidential electronic medicals records; ensure accurate patient demographic information;
  • Perform entry-level billing and collection;
  • Other clinic related duties as required.

Essential Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent GED and a college program or other specialized courses for medical administration;
  • Bilingual (French and English);
  • Computer literacy: MS Word, Outlook, EMR ;
  • Some experience in a medical environment;
  • Knowledge of medical terminology an asset;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills;

Additional Information

  • Hourly rate: $15.36 – $20.66

Le/la réceptionniste médical(e) travaille avec l’équipe de réception afin d’offrir un service excellent aux patients et patientes du Service de santé de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Fonctions principales

Sous la supervision d’un gestionnaire, le/la réceptionniste médical(e) est responsable de :

  • Accueillir et inscrire les patientes et patients selon les lignes directrices d’inscription.
  • Répondre aux appels au moyen d’un téléphone à plusieurs lignes et écrans, fournir des renseignements/de l’aide ou réacheminer l’appel à la personne appropriée, prendre les messages et les remettre aux personnes concernées.
  • Fixer des rendez-vous médicaux, les confirmer, les annuler et les reprogrammer au besoin. Ces rendez-vous peuvent comprendre des rendez-vous médicaux auprès médecins, du personnel paramédical et/ou des demandes administratives.
  • Créer et maintenir des dossiers médicaux électroniques confidentiels; s’assurer de la mise à jour des données des patients
  • Effectuer la facturation et la collecte de premier niveau
  • Fournir une aide pour les autres tâches de la clinique tel que demandé par les gestionnaires ou les médecins.

Qualités essentielles:

  • Diplôme d’études secondaires ou l’équivalent, ainsi qu’un diplôme d’études collégiales ou autre programme spécialisé en administration médicale
  • Bilinguisme (français et anglais)
  • Connaissance des programmes MS Word, Outlook, EMR
  • Expérience de travail dans un domaine médical
  • Connaissance de la terminologie médicale est un atout
  • Grand souci du détail
  • Excellentes aptitudes de communication et du service à la clientèle
